Bright on Both Sides
Good evening everyone and no one,
I asked who was excited for my new album and you answered in resounding mutual agreement. It turns out that none of my three or four readers are even a little bit interested. Well, you should know that your sample size will have to be bigger than that if you want to crush my spirit!
I will be releasing one song from the album every Saturday night for a few weeks, then I’ll post the whole album.
There’s a story to go along with the music. The first song, Pale Gray, goes along with the beginning of the story.
The main character has no name.
Nameless.He was an experience thief.
He would steal sights, sounds and stories from everywhere he went—never asking for permission and never giving anything in return. As with everyone, he was born heartless and dimly lit.
As with everyone, it took another person to show him this. When he was nothing, he was born into space.
A speck in space overwhelmed by the sun.“It’s bright on both sides,” he thought.
He grew up and didn’t realize the shadow forming on one side—bigger and bigger.
Music of the Moment: The Smiths “Heaven Knows I’m Miserable Now”
This song is about being sad and depressed immediately after experiencing something warm and fuzzy. Really, most of this album is about being sad, depressed, selfish or some combination of the three. An ESL university student wouldn’t know it though ’cause the music is so upbeat and there is no mention of drugs or alcohol anywhere on their Wikipedia page!
Whatever it is, it’s beautiful. Listen to the song, then listen to the whole album.
Artist: The Smiths
Song: Heaven Knows I’m Miserable Now
Album: Hatful of Hallow
Year: 1984

Go on ahead and check out my new website design. Click that orange eyeball in the top left.
The site is much simplified and basically gives you, the user, fewer features! It’s the fresh smell that really counts though.
