About

Fera: The Sundered Tribes is a monster hunting, village building, tribe managing, online co-op third-person action game, where players zip around with their grapple beam and soar through the skies with their glider wings.

This is an ambitious game, and unfortunately, was forced to release in an incomplete state. It was heart-breaking for all involved, but I think there’s still a lot to enjoy about it.

Roles

As “Design Director” my assignment was to handle all the non-combat systems: village building, villager rescue, tribe management, monster tracking, monster harvesting, player progression, level design, world population and quest design. My work for each of these roughly went through this process:

  • Take assigned game designs and mechanics and develop them in the detail required to be built by programmers and artists
  • Lead the prototyping/white-boxing of designs to evaluate their suitability and potential for full development
  • Use Unreal blueprinting and internal tools to assemble the player experience
  • Lead and mentor the design team, providing guidance on their daily tasks, and ensuring that all aspects of the game are delivered on time, and to the specified standards of quality
